The Colourful world of Avatar

I'm interrupting my travelogue because I can't help myself...I've been dying to create some palettes inspired by the latest masterpiece of James Cameron, Avatar!

I have already mentioned that my favorite color is Purple , it's also widely known that I'm a fantasy and sci-fi geek and my take on life begins and ends with words such as respect Nature spirits Energy etc etc

So...you get the picture already...Avatar had me hooked for about 6 hours (I saw it twice...one of which in 3D) and since then I declare my love for it everywhere :P

I won't get into the details on the film, I would hate to ruin the experience for anyone who hasn't seen it yet! Besides...I'm in no mood to review it publicly...the 5 hours long conversations I've had with my friends after watching it covered this need of mine! hehehe

Here are some pictures of the film...pretty colour-drooling if you ask me ^.^ and the palettes I've made...sorry for the poor quality of some of them...there aren't many good ones out there yet...
:/

Notice how the glow of the floating seeds and the purple plant in the background make all the blue hues almost sparkle???

Again...the sparkles of green and blue give life to all the cold coloured hues...the fuschias pop out and the atmosphere is utterly dreamy.

Ever fantasized about swimming in a sea of cold pastel colors??? No?!?! What are you talking about?? Isn't this everyone's dream??? :P

Even the beasts in this planet have the same bright, mystical hues of greens, blues and purples!
The golden detail makes the difference here.

wow...I have no words for this one...purple in all its glory, I feel completely justified for my colour-love now...just wow...

Did anybody call for a savior??? Of course the redemption would come from the sky...and in fact...painted with colours that were nowhere else to be found throughout the film...fierce huh?
(ok, I know I have a tiny spoiler here...spare me, I'm hardly keeping in all the symbolisms and significance of the colours :P)

well...let the colours guide you to a magical journey...i can't get enough of it! I'll probably express some of my thoughts on the symbolism of the colours...a bit later, when everybody will have seen it :P

Back with more colour (not as dazzling as these though, i guess...) K. ;)

The Ultimate Site for Colour Lovers!

Today I'll present to you one of my favourite sites out there, it never fails to amaze me and make me daydream! Colourlovers does all of that and many more! :)

Colourlovers is a site that...well...loves colour! In all it's combinations and forms, colour is the main topic here! Thousands of "colourlovers" join forces here to create the biggest database of colours (properly invented and named) palettes (also named after their inspiration) and patterns!

Palette: The Colour Effect!

Here are some palettes I've made the last few months...it always amazes me, mostly when I browse through palettes created by other "colourlovers", how the titles neatly match the combination of colours! Colour is, in the end, one of the few universal languages!

Palette: Triplets are fun!

Palette: Kiss me now!

Palette: Happy Sea Summer!

Palette: Boudoir

If you end up indulging yourselves in the magic of Colourlovers post a palette in your comment, i'd love to see what you'll come up with!!!

It's a small post but they say a picture is worth 1000 words! And 1000 colours I may add!

More colour inspiration tomorrow! K.

Fit for an Empress aka The Colour Purple

Not blue, not silver, not pink, not even gold...none of these spell royalty better than Imperial Purple itself!

Purple, a colour psycologically connected with wealth, power, intellect and magical abilities!
The word purple derives from the greek word porphyra which describes the dye manufactured in classical antiquity. The dye itself was being produced by a marine snail known as Murex brandaris (that's one BEAUTIFUL sea shell!) and because of its rarity it was accessible only to the wealthiest of people aka the monarchs.

One very interesting fact about purple is that it's non spectral! It has no place of its own in the spectrum of light that is...it is only created by the combination of blue and red!Violet however is a spectral color but it's a bit different than purple itself. Not that it matters when it comes to design and decoration. :)

People with purple auras are said to have a love of ritual and ceremony.

Byzantine empresses gave birth in the Purple Chamber of the palace of the Byzantine Emperors. Therefore, being named Porphyrogenitus ("born to the purple") marked a dynastic emperor as opposed to a general who won the throne by his effort.

Purple is associated with Saturday on the Thai solar calendar. Anyone may wear purple on Saturdays and anyone born on a Saturday may adopt purple as their color.

One of the stars in the Pleiades, called Pleione, is sometimes called Purple Pleione because, being a fast spinning star, it has a purple hue caused by its blue-white color being obscured by a spinning ring of electrically excited red hydrogen gas.

In interiors purple is one of the colours most feard, though. It's intensity and depth make it challenging for even proffesionals to handle succesfully! Here are a few excellent examples of purple interiors for you to be inspired and let go...eventually everyone loves purple, it's a unisex colour it's a sexy colour it's a mature colour!

Purple is also my favorite colour! My number one favourite colour with green following up! Purple is the colour that I wear the most, I love it on my nails, I'm dreaming to one day dying my hair in a deep imperial purple and decorating my house with it as a dominant colour!

I'll be back with a new colour tomorrow! K.

Colorstrology...my favorite "-ology"

Nope...that's not the post I've been meaning to present today but I'll get to that...eventually! Today, though, I have something really really interesting to share with you...

"The Colours that we see all around us are a reflection of the Sun's light in all it's glory. It is magic made visible!!! There is nothing more miraculous, unexpected or wondrous thanseeing a rainbow appear in the sky!

You are a part of that rainbow of light and just as being born on a particular day, under a particular Sun sign offers insight into your personality and nature, there is also a colour that corresponds to the real you! It is the color that reflects the very essence of your specific birth date!"

written by: michelle bernhardt

I had to quote the introduction of the Colorstrology site because I couldn't find a better way to describe what it is. Michelle Bernhardt came up with the term colorstrology and a whole book of it lead after that!

Pantone sponsored it and of course they would since they are all about colour!!!
You can find your own birth date color at www.colorstrology.com too! :D

Mine is Kelly Green!!! What a coincidence, matches my actual name too!

The description was pretty accurate too...how about yours??
Pretty small post today but I'll be back tomorrow with more colour!!! K.

A Change of Heart aka The Colour Pink

So...today I was in a pretty bad mood...all day long. I can't put my finger on the reason of my grumpiness but the thing is I had no intention of posting any kind of colour today...the day just seemed so...dull.

But as I was leaning over my netbook trying to find the "happy elixir" a word popped in my head! A colour word of course!!! And suddenly my day blushed a little and my heart fluttered for a moment!

You can't go wrong with pink...you can NEVER go wrong with pink! And there are so many of them too...hot pink, cotton candy, baby pink, strawberry pink, peony, reddish pinks, purplish pinks, dramatic and muted, light and deep...all of them unique and pretty!

I found a few pictures of pink interiors that I want to share with you...It's actually like a prelude to my next post as you'll see later.

So...what do we know about Pink ? It is considered the most feminine of colours, it's softest hues remind us of cotton candy and rose petals and its most striking ones make our blood pump!!!

Lucretius used it to describe the colour of dawn in his epic poem "The Nature Of Things".

The pink ribbon is the international symbol for breast cancer awareness!

It has been suggested that females prefer pink because of a preference for reddish things like ripe fruits and healthy faces.

In Japan the color cherry blossom pink is associated with a woman's vagina, and therefore, in Japan, softcore pornographic films are called "pink movies". O.O

"Seeing Pink Elephants" is a euphemism for hallucinations caused by delirium tremens! The concept was used in the Disney's animated film "Dumbo" when the cute character accidentally becomes drunk and sees a parade of pink elephants.

Ultimately Pink may not be all that innocent at times but it is definately one of the most beloved colours!

Next time you feel down give yourself a healthy serving of Pink and remember that things will only get better!!! I'm retreating now...to my (admittedly) Pink Room and just...be a princess in pink for the night.

Until tomorrow (cause I just won't give up) be well and veeery much "colourful"!!! K.
