Fit for an Empress aka The Colour Purple

Not blue, not silver, not pink, not even gold...none of these spell royalty better than Imperial Purple itself!

Purple, a colour psycologically connected with wealth, power, intellect and magical abilities!
The word purple derives from the greek word porphyra which describes the dye manufactured in classical antiquity. The dye itself was being produced by a marine snail known as Murex brandaris (that's one BEAUTIFUL sea shell!) and because of its rarity it was accessible only to the wealthiest of people aka the monarchs.

One very interesting fact about purple is that it's non spectral! It has no place of its own in the spectrum of light that is...it is only created by the combination of blue and red!Violet however is a spectral color but it's a bit different than purple itself. Not that it matters when it comes to design and decoration. :)

People with purple auras are said to have a love of ritual and ceremony.

Byzantine empresses gave birth in the Purple Chamber of the palace of the Byzantine Emperors. Therefore, being named Porphyrogenitus ("born to the purple") marked a dynastic emperor as opposed to a general who won the throne by his effort.

Purple is associated with Saturday on the Thai solar calendar. Anyone may wear purple on Saturdays and anyone born on a Saturday may adopt purple as their color.

One of the stars in the Pleiades, called Pleione, is sometimes called Purple Pleione because, being a fast spinning star, it has a purple hue caused by its blue-white color being obscured by a spinning ring of electrically excited red hydrogen gas.

In interiors purple is one of the colours most feard, though. It's intensity and depth make it challenging for even proffesionals to handle succesfully! Here are a few excellent examples of purple interiors for you to be inspired and let go...eventually everyone loves purple, it's a unisex colour it's a sexy colour it's a mature colour!

Purple is also my favorite colour! My number one favourite colour with green following up! Purple is the colour that I wear the most, I love it on my nails, I'm dreaming to one day dying my hair in a deep imperial purple and decorating my house with it as a dominant colour!

I'll be back with a new colour tomorrow! K.
